July night skies set to feature rare astronomical events worldwide

Astronomy enthusiasts around the world are expected to witness several notable celestial events in July, including lunar alignments, a full moon phase, and a meteor shower, according to astronomical observations.

One of the most striking events will occur on July 17, when a crescent Moon illuminated at around 14% will pass close to the planet Venus in the constellation Leo. The two celestial bodies will approach within approximately two degrees of each other, creating a visually striking conjunction visible from many regions of the world.

Later in the month, on July 29, the Moon will reach its full phase, commonly known as the “Deer Moon.” During this time, it will appear relatively low on the horizon. The name is traditionally linked to Indigenous American cultures, referring to the period when deer begin regrowing their antlers after shedding them in the previous season.

The third major event will take place on July 31, when the Southern Delta Aquariids meteor shower reaches its peak. Under optimal viewing conditions, observers may be able to see up to 25 meteors per hour, particularly during the pre-dawn hours when the sky is darkest.

Astronomers note that these events are best observed from locations with minimal light pollution and clear weather conditions, offering skywatchers an opportunity to enjoy a rich month of astronomical activity across different parts of the globe.
