Morocco investigates alleged cyber attack on judiciary council website

The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Rabat has initiated an official investigation into reports suggesting that the website of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary may have been hacked. This decision follows social media posts alleging a cyberattack that purportedly leaked two administrative documents from the Council.

The National Brigade of Judicial Police has been assigned to verify the authenticity of these documents and to uncover any potential criminal activities associated with the breach. As of now, authorities have yet to confirm whether the website was compromised or if the documents in question are legitimate.

This incident is part of a series of cyberattacks attributed to the Algerian hacker group Jabaroot, which previously claimed responsibility for breaching Morocco’s Ministry of Justice. They reported accessing sensitive data related to Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi, approximately 5,000 magistrates, and 35,000 judicial officials.

The investigation into this latest breach comes on the heels of previous attacks on the National Social Security Fund and the National Agency for Land Registry, where millions of sensitive documents were accessed. Jabaroot has criticized Moroccan authorities for their perceived inaction regarding the warnings issued prior to these breaches, describing their silence as "complicit."

The hacker group has threatened to release further information if appropriate action is not taken, suggesting that Minister Ouahbi should resign if he fails to address the situation effectively. The Ministry of Justice has yet to comment on these claims.
