Ukraine strikes deepen Belgorod blackout crisis as energy war escalates
A Ukrainian missile barrage has severely damaged energy facilities in Russia’s Belgorod region, plunging parts of the border city and surrounding districts into fresh power, water and heating outages in the middle of winter. Russian officials frame the strikes as deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and accuse Kyiv of trying to terrorise border communities. Ukrainian leaders argue the cross‑border campaign is a direct response to Russia’s sustained bombardment of Ukraine’s own power grid, which has included large‑scale drone and missile barrages against power plants, substations and distribution lines across multiple regions.
