Moroccan authorities intercept 102,000 pills in Bab Sebta smuggling operation
Moroccan authorities successfully halted a significant drug trafficking attempt at the Bab Sebta border post on Saturday evening. The coordinated operation, carried out by Morocco’s national police and customs services, uncovered 102,000 Rivotril tablets hidden in a vehicle.
The vehicle, registered abroad, was driven by a Spanish citizen of Moroccan origin. Traveling with her two children and another Moroccan woman, the suspects attempted to use the appearance of a family trip to evade suspicion. However, a detailed inspection by border officials revealed the pills concealed in metal compartments built into the car’s structure.
Authorities immediately detained all four individuals as they entered Moroccan territory. The group remains in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor as investigators work to uncover connections to larger trafficking networks operating within and beyond Morocco.
This seizure highlights Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat the spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Security forces have intensified measures at critical border crossings such as Bab Sebta, where criminal networks often test the limits of surveillance. Officials reaffirm their commitment to dismantling these networks to safeguard public health and national security.
