Justice pledges full investigation into death of Quentin D. after Lyon attack
French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin condemned the death of Quentin D., a 23-year-old nationalist, following a violent attack in Lyon. Speaking on Sunday at the Grand Jury, Darmanin described the incident as a “despicable tragedy” and stated that Quentin D. had been “assaulted, apparently by far-left extremists.”
The attack occurred during an event featuring Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan, and the minister emphasized that violent political rhetoric can fuel physical aggression. Darmanin highlighted another recent incident in Poissy, where five people were injured in an attack on Deputy Karl Olive, noting that political speeches, especially from La France Insoumise and far-left groups, can lead to “unchecked violence.”
The Justice Minister assured that authorities will thoroughly investigate the Lyon incident to shed full light on the circumstances of Quentin D.’s death. He warned that democracy is fragile when political discourse turns violent, stressing the importance of responsible public communication.
