GAC expands in Morocco with electric, hybrid and premium models
Chinese automotive group GAC has formally expanded its presence in Morocco, with M-AUTOMOTIV leading the brand’s commercial rollout under an exclusive import and distribution agreement.
The official launch, held in Casablanca on September 24, follows an initial market preview during the summer. The new phase brings a wider selection of vehicles to Moroccan customers, ranging from compact SUVs and hybrid family vehicles to premium electric models and a high-performance electric hypercar.
The Moroccan operation also covers GAC Group’s wider brand portfolio, including GAC, AION and HYPTEC, giving M-AUTOMOTIV a presence across several segments of the evolving automotive market.
Three brands, different mobility segments
Founded in 1997, GAC Group has developed an international automotive portfolio covering conventional, hybrid and electric mobility.
In Morocco, the three brands are positioned around distinct uses. GAC serves as the broad-volume brand, AION focuses on electric mobility, while HYPTEC occupies the premium technology-oriented segment.
The strategy gives M-AUTOMOTIV the possibility of addressing different customer profiles rather than concentrating its launch on a single type of vehicle.
“GAC’s arrival in Morocco marks an important strategic step for M-AUTOMOTIV,” said Souhail Houmaini, the group’s general manager, emphasizing the brand’s engineering capabilities, technology and range.
HYPTEC brings the premium electric proposition
One of the main additions to the Moroccan range is HYPTEC, GAC’s premium electric division.
The HYPTEC HT is a rear-wheel-drive electric SUV rated at 340 horsepower, with a claimed range of up to 620 kilometres under the NEDC cycle. Its equipment includes rear gullwing-style doors, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats and Level 2 driver-assistance technologies.
The model is positioned as a technology-focused alternative in Morocco’s growing premium electric vehicle segment.
At the opposite end of the performance spectrum sits the HYPTEC Hyper SSR. The fully electric hypercar produces a claimed 1,224 horsepower from three electric motors and is reported to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds. Its carbon-fibre construction, electric butterfly doors and carbon-ceramic braking system underline its role as a technology showcase for the group.
GN8 targets premium family mobility
GAC is also entering the premium multi-purpose vehicle segment with the GN8, a seven-seat plug-in hybrid.
The model combines a claimed 373 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque with a combined WLTC range of up to 1,032 kilometres. Its equipment package includes heated, ventilated and massaging Business Class-style seats, Nappa leather, electrically operated rear sliding doors and a 15.6-inch entertainment screen for second-row passengers.
The GN8 also features 15 advanced driver-assistance systems and an electronically controlled variable suspension designed to balance ride comfort and stability.
The initial SUV line remains at the heart of the offer
The official expansion builds on three vehicles previously presented during GAC’s Moroccan pre-launch: the EMZOOM, EMKOO and S7.
The EMZOOM occupies the compact urban SUV segment with a turbocharged petrol engine producing 177 horsepower. The EMKOO adds a self-charging hybrid option, with a claimed 235 horsepower and advertised fuel consumption of 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres.
The S7 takes a larger family-oriented position, combining plug-in hybrid technology with up to 500 horsepower and 613 Nm of torque. Its 720-litre luggage capacity and extensive assistance and safety technologies are intended to make it suitable for longer family journeys.
Together, the three models give the Moroccan range coverage across urban, family and long-distance use cases.
An unusual addition: the AirCab
M-AUTOMOTIV is also presenting an AirCab concept as part of its broader vision for future mobility in Morocco.
The project extends the group's positioning beyond conventional road vehicles and highlights its interest in emerging transportation technologies. Rather than serving as a conventional addition to the showroom range, the AirCab is being presented as an illustration of the group's longer-term approach to next-generation mobility.
Network expansion remains a key challenge
GAC's commercial rollout is being accompanied by a gradual expansion of its Moroccan network.
Casablanca and Tanger already host the brand, while Rabat, El Jadida and Agadir are identified as further stages in the planned expansion. The objective is to increase geographic coverage as the vehicle range grows.
The after-sales infrastructure is being developed alongside the commercial network. M-AUTOMOTIV says GAC and M-Service facilities are already present in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, El Jadida, Fès and Oujda, providing maintenance, technical support and access to replacement parts.
This infrastructure will be particularly relevant as the group introduces increasingly electrified vehicles, whose servicing requirements differ from those of conventional petrol-powered cars.
A wider bet on electrification
The Moroccan launch gives GAC a portfolio spanning petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric technologies.
That breadth reflects a market in which consumers are increasingly being offered different routes toward electrification rather than a single technological model. For M-AUTOMOTIV, the challenge will now extend beyond introducing vehicles to building awareness, maintaining service standards and expanding its network across Morocco.
With GAC, AION and HYPTEC under the same distribution structure, the group is seeking to establish a broader presence in Morocco's rapidly changing automotive landscape. The Casablanca launch therefore represents not only the arrival of additional models, but the beginning of a wider commercial deployment across several segments.
