Iran sends dual national to trial on espionage charges after june conflict
Iranian authorities announced on Monday that a dual Iranian–European national will face trial on charges of espionage linked to the June conflict between Iran and Israel. According to Mizan Online, the judiciary’s official news outlet, the individual is accused of “spying for the Zionist regime” and was detained in Iran during the 12-day confrontation earlier this year.
No further details regarding the suspect’s identity or nationality were released.
The arrest occurred in the tense weeks surrounding the ceasefire that ended the hostilities between the two countries. Iranian officials have repeatedly accused foreign intelligence services of attempting to exploit the instability created by the brief but intense conflict. The case is now being transferred to the competent court, where the defendant is expected to be formally tried on security-related charges.
