Iran says situation is under control after weekend unrest
Iranian authorities said on Monday that the security situation across the country is now fully under control following a surge of violence linked to protests over the weekend.
Speaking to a gathering of foreign ambassadors in Tehran, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that stability had been restored after clashes involving demonstrators and security forces. His remarks were broadcast on state television and later circulated through official channels.
Araghchi accused foreign actors of exploiting the unrest, claiming that warnings issued by US President Donald Trump had encouraged hostile groups to escalate violence in an attempt to justify external intervention. According to the Iranian official, these actions targeted both protesters and security personnel.
At the same time, the foreign minister stressed that Iran remains firm in its defensive posture while keeping the door open to diplomacy. He said the country does not seek conflict but is prepared to respond if necessary.
“Iran is not looking for war, but it is fully ready to defend itself,” Araghchi said, adding that Tehran remains open to negotiations provided they are conducted on the basis of equality, fairness, and mutual respect.
The statements come amid heightened regional tensions and renewed international attention on Iran’s internal stability and diplomatic stance.
