HM King Mohammed VI reshapes Morocco's administration with new appointments

His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has introduced significant changes to the country’s territorial governance by appointing 15 new Walis and governors. The announcement was made during a ministerial council chaired by the monarch in Rabat, reflecting efforts to enhance local administration and drive national development.

Among the key appointments is Khalid Ait Taleb, who will assume the role of Wali of the Fez-Meknes region and governor of the Fez prefecture. Other notable names include Khatib El Hebil, who will oversee the Marrakech-Safi region and Marrakech prefecture, and Hassan Zitouni, appointed as governor of the Azilal province.

The full list of appointees underscores a comprehensive administrative restructuring aimed at boosting efficiency and governance across Morocco’s regions. The 15 officials named include:

- Khatib El Hebil, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Governor of Marrakech prefecture.

- Khalid Ait Taleb, Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Governor of Fez prefecture.

- Mhamed Atfaoui, Wali of the Oriental region, Governor of Oujda-Angad prefecture.

- Fouad Hajji, Governor of Al Hoceima province.

- Hassan Zitouni, Governor of Azilal province.

- Sidi Saleh Daha, Governor of El Jadida province.

- Abdelkhalek Marzouki, Governor of Casablanca-Anfa prefecture.

- Mohamed Alami Ouaddan, Governor of Zagora province.

- Mustapha El Maaza, Governor of Al Haouz province.

- Rachid Benchikhi, Governor of Taza province.

- Mohamed Zhar, Governor of Inezgane-Aït Melloul prefecture.

- Mohamed Khalfaoui, Governor of Fahs-Anjra province.

- Zakaria Hachlaf, Governor of Chefchaouen province.

- Abdelaziz Zerouali, Governor of Sidi Kacem province.

- Abdelkrim Ghannami, Governor of Taounate province.

In addition to these appointments, the King designated Tarik Senhaji as the President of the Moroccan Capital Market Authority, further reinforcing Morocco's financial governance framework.

During the council, the Minister of Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, presented the 2026 Finance Bill. The proposed plan aims to accelerate the implementation of "Emerging Morocco" projects, a strategy designed to promote national development, social justice, and integrated local progress across the country.
