GITEX Africa: Digitalization Fuels Morocco's Socioeconomic Surge
At the much-anticipated GITEX Africa 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco, Ghita Mezzour, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, delivered a captivating keynote address, vividly illustrating the nation's digital renaissance. Mezzour's words resonated with Morocco's steadfast dedication to leveraging technology as a catalyst for socioeconomic advancement.
The minister highlighted Morocco's significant strides in the digital domain, emphasizing the pivotal role of outsourcing in driving the nation's digital reforms. She revealed a remarkable 20% revenue increase in this sector over recent years, surging from MAD 14.7 billion ($1.4 billion) to an impressive MAD 17.9 billion ($1.8 billion) within just two years.
Mezzour credited this meteoric rise to a combination of youthful talent, robust government support, and solid infrastructure. She underscored her ministry's commitment to nurturing this vital sector, spotlighting the flourishing ecosystem of Moroccan startups making waves in various technological fields, including artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.
"Today, Moroccan and international companies are delivering cutting-edge solutions utilizing the latest digital technologies to serve global markets," Mezzour proudly declared, reflecting Morocco's ascendance in the global outsourcing landscape, ranking 28th worldwide and solidifying its position as the second-best outsourcing destination in Africa.
Highlighting the paramount importance of digitalization, Mezzour outlined the government's efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of digital public services, resulting in an impressive offering of 600 digital services to citizens.
Additionally, Mezzour shed light on her ministry's visionary program aimed at cultivating a pipeline of digital talents across Moroccan universities, targeting a significant increase in graduates to 71,000 by 2027, with an annual output of over 22,000 skilled professionals.
Emphasizing the significance of global partnerships, the minister referenced a landmark agreement with Oracle in the United States, poised to leverage the potential of over 1,000 Moroccan talents, empowering them to develop innovative cloud solutions and advance AI technologies.
GITEX Africa 2024, hosting 15,000 exhibitors worldwide, serves as a hub of innovation, providing a platform for startups and SMEs to exchange expertise and showcase technological advancements across various domains, including AI, healthcare, and cybersecurity.
Complementing the main event, the "World Health Future" exhibition promises to drive innovation in the healthcare sector, with international startups specializing in digital health contributing expertise and insights to advance healthcare development across Africa.
Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, emphasized GITEX Africa's role as a platform to explore strategies for positioning Africa as a producer and consumer of digital technology. "Today, digital transformation is indispensable for cooperation among African countries, contributing not only to technological development but also to economic, social, and political growth," Akhannouch asserted.
As GITEX Africa 2024 concludes, Morocco's digital journey is clearly underway, fueled by innovation, talent development, and strategic partnerships. The nation's digital prowess is set to propel it to new heights, ushering in an era of unprecedented socioeconomic prosperity.
