Radical settler movement claims dozens of anti-Palestinian attacks in the West Bank

A radical Israeli settler movement known as the “Hilltop Youth” has claimed responsibility for dozens of violent incidents targeting Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement circulated on its Telegram channel. The group described the attacks as part of what it called a “campaign against the Arab enemy.”

The list published by the movement details more than 60 alleged attacks over the course of a month in 33 Palestinian villages. Several incidents were reported in Mikhmas, a village near Ramallah, where tensions have recently escalated. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that a 19-year-old man died from gunshot wounds sustained during an alleged settler attack.

According to the group’s own account, the incidents included arson against homes and vehicles, destruction of olive trees, and physical assaults that left dozens injured. Independent verification of the full extent of the claims remains difficult, but local officials and rights organizations have documented a rise in violence in recent months.

Political reactions and settlement expansion

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously condemned violent acts by what he described as a small group of extremists, insisting they do not represent the broader settler community. At the same time, influential rabbis in northern West Bank settlements have issued public statements urging settlers to avoid violence and to follow official directives.

Human rights organizations, including the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now, argue that increasing settler outposts and land disputes have fueled tensions. In a recent report, the organization stated that settlement expansion accelerated in 2025, with dozens of new housing units approved.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. More than 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the territory, alongside approximately three million Palestinians. The United Nations considers the settlements illegal under international law, a position Israel disputes. The ongoing violence underscores the fragile security situation and the broader political deadlock in the region.
