French national hunters federation hit by cyberattack targeting license holders’ data
The French National Hunters Federation (FNC) has confirmed that it was the target of a cyberattack this week affecting part of its digital infrastructure, specifically the online platform used for hunting license validation.
In a statement released on Friday, the federation explained that the intrusion was detected early on January 20, allowing its technical teams to quickly isolate the affected systems and prevent the incident from spreading further. The organization said the situation is now under control and that secure restoration of services is underway.
Authorities have been notified, including France’s data protection watchdog, and a formal complaint has been filed. An official investigation has been launched to determine the origin and scope of the attack.
The FNC sought to reassure its members, stating that no banking information, passwords, or data related to firearm ownership were compromised. However, hunters have been urged to remain cautious and to report any unusual messages or requests for personal information.
The incident comes amid heightened concern following a similar cyberattack last year on another French sports federation, which led to the misuse of stolen personal data and a series of targeted crimes. That case highlighted the potential risks associated with data breaches involving sensitive personal information.
