Franco-Moroccan axis emerges as a beacon of peace amid global crises
In the current geopolitical landscape, characterized by a surge in crises and conflicts, the Franco-Moroccan axis stands out as a significant vector for peace, emphasized Guillaume Chaban Delmas, a French expert in Euro-African relations.
In a recent commentary for MAP, Chaban Delmas reflected on the unprecedented developments in relations between Morocco and France. This includes an intense exchange of visits in recent weeks, notably by Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau to Rabat on Sunday, and Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita to Paris on Monday at the invitation of his counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot. Chaban Delmas noted that both nations share a strong commitment to acting as facilitators of dialogue and peace to address the various crises affecting the world, all while upholding international legal order.
France has also acknowledged Morocco's commitment within multilateral forums regarding issues of peace, stability, and development. Following the Paris meeting with Bourita, the French Foreign Minister reiterated the desire to maintain close consultation with Morocco and to undertake joint initiatives in this regard.
The two ministers reaffirmed their intention to leverage Franco-Moroccan cooperation to address regional crises and defend international legal order, as stated by the Quai d'Orsay.
“At a time when the tectonic plates of global geopolitics are in constant motion, we need to hear the Franco-Moroccan voice in unison,” asserted Chaban Delmas. He believes that the themes discussed during the meeting between the two foreign ministers are poised to solidify the Franco-Moroccan bilateral axis as a genuine instrument of peace.
Chaban Delmas also expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of Retailleau's visit to Morocco. “I am pleased to see that even today, despite the current global context, there are opportunities for strong cooperation and collaboration that will structure our century,” he stated. He highlighted that these developments are part of a virtuous cycle in Franco-Moroccan relations, which includes significant events such as the Agricultural Show and the Paris Book Fair, where Morocco was the guest of honor, among other important milestones in their bilateral relationship.
