France: Salah Abdeslam’s partner held in custody over terrorism investigation
Paris, November 8, 2025 — French authorities have placed the partner of Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving member of the November 13, 2015, Paris attacks commando, under police custody as part of a terrorism investigation. The inquiry, overseen by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT), now involves three individuals suspected of involvement in preparing a criminal act against persons.
Abdeslam, serving a life sentence in Vendin-le-Vieil prison for his role in the 2015 attacks that killed 130 people, was briefly held this week in connection with an earlier investigation into the possession of an illicit USB drive. Authorities suspect that the device could have been used to transfer jihadist propaganda.
The partner, identified as 27-year-old Maëva B., reportedly had a long-standing correspondence with Abdeslam and was later allowed prison visits. She is being investigated for aiding a detainee with illicit items and criminal conspiracy linked to terrorism. Two other individuals were also taken into custody under similar charges, and their detention has been extended as authorized by judicial authorities due to the serious risk of imminent terrorist activity.
Olivier Christen, head of the PNAT, emphasized that jihadist threats in France have increased in both volume and sophistication over the past three years, highlighting the continued vigilance required by national security forces.
