France wins European gymnastics team bronze as Elena Colas claims fourth medal
France’s women’s artistic gymnastics team secured the bronze medal at the European Championships in Zagreb on Sunday, continuing a run of podium finishes that has now extended across three consecutive editions.
The result also capped a remarkable debut senior season for Elena Colas, who collected her fourth medal of the championships at just 16 years old.
France completes another European team podium
Led by Colas, the reigning European champion on beam, France finished third in the team competition with a total of 159.263 points across the four apparatus.
The French team has now won team bronze at three successive European Championships, following identical results in 2024 and 2025.
Russia, competing under a neutral banner, claimed the European title after accumulating 165.430 points. Italy finished second with 161.796 points.
Elena Colas shines in her first senior season
The team medal provided another highlight in an exceptional European campaign for Colas.
The 16-year-old gymnast from Avoine-Beaumont had already established herself as one of the leading performers of the championships. After winning bronze in the individual all-around on Thursday, she captured the European beam title on Saturday.
She then added a silver medal on floor before helping France secure another bronze in the team event.
Colas therefore leaves Zagreb with four medals during her first season competing at senior level, an impressive start to her international career.
A breakthrough year for the young French gymnast
Colas entered the European Championships after winning the French national title in June, further underlining her rapid rise within French gymnastics.
Her performance in Zagreb has now combined individual success with a contribution to the national team, giving France another emerging figure to build around for future international competitions.
For the French team, the bronze also confirms its consistency at European level. While the title remained out of reach this time, three successive team podiums demonstrate the squad’s ability to remain among the continent’s strongest programs.
