Casablanca Stock Exchange Opens Higher as MASI Gains 0.08%
The Casablanca Stock Exchange began Tuesday’s trading session on positive ground, with its benchmark MASI index edging up 0.08% to 16,988.99 points. The modest advance came after the index closed down 0.13% in the previous session, reflecting a slight improvement in market sentiment at the opening.
The gains extended across the exchange’s main indicators, although the performance of individual listed companies remained mixed.
Major market indices post modest gains
The MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks listed in Casablanca, rose 0.17% to 1,228.38 points. The MASI ESG index, which measures companies selected for their environmental, social and governance ratings according to Moody’s ESG Solutions, advanced 0.16% to 1,255.26 points.
Smaller and mid-sized companies also started the session in positive territory. The MASI Mid and Small Cap index gained 0.02%, reaching 1,619.13 points.
The opening figures point to moderate gains across different segments of the Moroccan equity market, with the MASI 20 recording the strongest increase among the indices cited.
Colorado and Med Paper lead individual stocks
Colorado emerged as the session’s strongest performer among the listed shares highlighted, climbing 6.15% to 77.49 Moroccan dirhams (MAD). Med Paper followed with a 4.31% increase to MAD 23.
Technology and financial stocks also advanced. HPS gained 2.8% to MAD 532.50, while Bank of Africa rose 2.72% to MAD 184.90. Involys completed the five strongest performers, increasing 1.72% to MAD 118.
These gains contrasted with declines recorded by several other listed companies, underlining the uneven performance of individual stocks despite the positive direction of the benchmark indices.
Ib Maroc.com records the steepest decline
Ib Maroc.com posted the largest drop among the shares listed in the session’s figures, falling 4.02% to MAD 52. SNEP lost 2.2% to MAD 277.70, while CMPG Group declined 1.68% to MAD 263.
AtlantaSanad retreated 1.63% to MAD 118.05. Minière Touissit also traded lower, slipping 1.23% to MAD 4,000.
The contrasting movements among individual stocks suggest that the market’s overall advance did not translate into uniform gains across listed companies.
Investors watch the market’s next moves
Tuesday’s opening provides an early snapshot of trading on Morocco’s main equity market following the previous session’s decline. While the benchmark and sector-related indicators moved higher, the available opening figures do not establish whether the gains will be sustained throughout the trading day.
The next market developments will help determine whether the positive start marks a broader recovery or remains a limited upward movement after the previous day’s losses.
