Morocco Tourism GDP Surges 11.7% to 129.7 Billion Dirhams in 2025
Morocco’s tourism industry strengthened its contribution to the national economy in 2025, with tourism-related gross domestic product (GDP) reaching 129.7 billion dirhams, up 11.7% from the previous year. The figures, published by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), highlight the sector’s growing economic importance and the expansion of tourism-related spending across the country.
The increase brought tourism’s share of Morocco’s national GDP to 7.5%, compared with 7.2% in 2024. In absolute terms, tourism GDP rose from 116.2 billion dirhams to 129.7 billion dirhams, reflecting continued growth in the sector’s economic output.
According to the HCP, the expansion was accompanied by a 16% rise in net taxes on tourism products, after accounting for subsidies. The latest figures underline tourism’s role as a contributor to economic activity beyond visitor arrivals alone.
Tourism spending exceeds 222 billion dirhams
Domestic tourism consumption, which encompasses spending associated with inbound, domestic and outbound tourism under the national accounting framework, reached 222.4 billion dirhams in 2025. This represented an increase of 10.3% from the 201.7 billion dirhams recorded in 2024.
Inbound tourism was the main driver of this expansion. Spending associated with international visitors to Morocco rose by 12.5%, reaching 154 billion dirhams over the year.
Consumption linked to domestic and outbound tourism also increased, although at a more moderate pace. It grew by 5.5% to reach 68.4 billion dirhams.
The figures reveal a clear imbalance in the composition of tourism consumption. International visitors accounted for 69.2% of the total in 2025, while domestic and outbound tourism represented the remaining 30.8%.
This distribution illustrates the substantial weight of foreign visitor spending in Morocco’s tourism economy, while also pointing to continued activity generated by Moroccan travellers.
Tourism production and value added continue to rise
The sector’s overall production reached 199.4 billion dirhams in 2025, marking annual growth of 9.6%, according to the HCP.
Value added, an indicator measuring the wealth generated by economic activity after deducting intermediate consumption, increased by 10.8% to 106.8 billion dirhams. Its faster growth compared with overall production suggests that the sector generated greater economic value during the year.
Taken together, the increases in production, value added and tourism GDP indicate that the sector expanded across several key economic indicators in 2025.
Tourism consolidates its place in Morocco’s economy
The rise in tourism GDP to 7.5% of national output reinforces the sector’s position within Morocco’s broader economic landscape. The growth in inbound tourism consumption is particularly significant, given its dominant share of total tourism spending.
However, the figures also distinguish between the strong contribution of international visitors and the more moderate expansion of domestic and outbound tourism consumption.
For policymakers and tourism professionals, these indicators provide a broader measure of the sector’s performance, complementing visitor numbers and accommodation statistics. The HCP’s annual tourism satellite account offers an economic perspective on how tourism contributes to production, value creation and national income.
The 2025 results therefore point to a stronger economic footprint for tourism in Morocco, with higher spending and increased value added accompanying the sector’s growing share of national GDP.
