First giraffe birth in Morocco marks milestone at Dream Village Zoo
A historic moment unfolded in Morocco as a baby giraffe was born at the Dream Village Zoo in Mohammedia. The female calf arrived on Thursday, February 5, at 11:00 a.m., following a 15-month gestation period, and is reported to be in good health.
Zoo officials welcomed the birth as a key step in their strategy to promote local breeding and reduce reliance on imported animals. “We are proud and thrilled by the birth of this giraffe, the first of its kind in Morocco,” said Mohamed Mgharfaoui, founder and CEO of Dream Village Zoo. The calf’s parents, Sophie and Paco, were brought from Italy.
Veterinary teams at the zoo are closely monitoring the young giraffe to ensure her healthy growth. According to Dr. Afaf Charaf, a wildlife veterinarian at Dream Village, this birth reflects the dedication and skill of Moroccan teams. “This is a major step for the conservation of endangered species,” she emphasized.
To engage the public, the zoo launched a social media poll to help name the calf, inviting fans to participate in this extraordinary event.
Located between Casablanca and Mohammedia near the Cascades Forest, Dream Village Zoo spans 30 hectares and combines ecological education with family entertainment. Alongside a diverse zoo, the park offers a water park and play areas for children, highlighting its commitment to environmental awareness, sustainability, and leisure.
