Explosion damages Jewish school in Amsterdam
An explosion overnight damaged a Jewish school in Amsterdam, prompting an investigation by local authorities, according to media reports on Saturday.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, quickly responded to the incident, which occurred in a residential neighborhood in the southern part of the Dutch capital. Officials said the damage to the school building was limited.
Mayor Femke Halsema confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an act targeting the Jewish community.
“This is a cowardly act of aggression against the Jewish community,” Halsema said, emphasizing that schools must remain safe spaces where children can learn without fear.
Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage that reportedly shows a suspect responsible for detonating the explosive device near the building. Investigators are working to identify the individual and determine the motive behind the attack.
Authorities stressed that ensuring the safety of residents, including members of the Jewish community, remains a priority for the city.
The incident has raised concerns about security around religious and educational institutions in Netherlands, as officials continue their investigation.
