Chinese automotive giant Joyson Electronics expands its presence in Morocco
Chinese automotive supplier Joyson Electronics has strengthened its industrial footprint in Morocco as part of a broader global restructuring strategy aimed at improving competitiveness and reducing production costs outside China.
The company, a major global provider of automotive safety systems and embedded electronics, announced the expansion of its steering wheel manufacturing facility in Morocco. This move is part of its effort to optimize supply chains and improve profitability amid increasing global competition in the automotive sector.
Joyson Electronics operates across multiple regions, including Asia, Europe, and North America, with numerous research and development centers and industrial sites. The group is gradually shifting part of its production capacity to more cost-efficient locations, with Morocco emerging as a strategic hub due to its competitive labor costs, geographic proximity to Europe, and rapidly developing industrial infrastructure.
The company has recently reported signs of financial improvement in its international operations, with rising gross margins driven by operational restructuring. However, despite strong commercial performance and large order volumes from global automakers, profitability remains under pressure due to high debt levels accumulated through years of international acquisitions.
Joyson Electronics is a key supplier to leading automobile manufacturers worldwide, providing safety systems such as airbags, seatbelts, and advanced driver assistance technologies. Its products are used by major brands including Tesla, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and BYD.
Alongside its core automotive business, the group is investing heavily in emerging technologies, including robotics, advanced optical communication systems, and components for intelligent vehicles. These diversification efforts are part of its long-term strategy to move beyond traditional automotive supply chains.
For Morocco, the expansion reinforces its position as one of Africa’s leading automotive manufacturing hubs. The country continues to attract major international suppliers, benefiting from its industrial zones, export-oriented policies, and integration into global automotive value chains.
This latest investment highlights Morocco’s growing importance in the global automotive industry while reflecting the broader shift of manufacturing capacity toward more competitive production regions.
