Central African Republic closes two UN mission bases amid improved security
The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) announced the closure of two temporary operation bases in the central regions of Mbrès and Dékoa. The closures, which occurred on Sunday and Monday, are part of a reorganization of the mission’s geographic coverage in response to improving security conditions and the gradual transfer of responsibilities to national authorities.
Jean Jackson Daniel, coordinator of MINUSCA’s Civil Affairs section, told local media that the mission has contributed to restoring state authority, including the construction of administrative and security infrastructures. He emphasized that the closures do not represent a withdrawal but rather an adjustment of the security presence.
The former UN bases will now be used by the Central African Republic’s defense and security forces, reflecting progress in local capacity-building and a step toward long-term stabilization in the country.
