Amadeus to acquire French biometrics firm in major expansion move

Spanish travel technology group Amadeus IT Group has announced plans to acquire the French biometrics company Idemia Public Security in a deal valued at approximately 1.2 billion euros.

The acquisition, structured as an all-cash transaction, marks a strategic move by Amadeus to strengthen its presence in airport services and border control technologies. The company expects the deal to enhance its capabilities in passenger processing and secure identification systems, areas that are becoming increasingly important in global travel.

Currently owned by investment firm Advent International, Idemia Public Security provides biometric solutions used in airports, government systems and other regulated environments. Its technologies include identity verification, access control and advanced data management tools.

Amadeus indicated that the integration of Idemia’s services would expand its market opportunities significantly, increasing its potential revenue scope while reinforcing its global footprint in the travel and security sectors.

The deal is expected to be finalized by mid-2027, subject to regulatory approvals. It also includes additional performance-based payments that could increase the total value of the transaction.

Executives believe the acquisition will contribute to revenue growth and improved profitability over time, with anticipated cost synergies and operational efficiencies. The move also reflects broader industry trends, where digital identity and biometric technologies are playing a growing role in streamlining travel and enhancing security.

With thousands of employees and a wide international client base, Idemia Public Security is seen as a key player in biometric innovation, making it an attractive addition to Amadeus’ expanding portfolio.
