Abdellah Cheikh Wins Sharjah Award for Art Criticism in Plastic Arts
Moroccan researcher and art critic Abdellah Cheikh has been awarded the first-place Sharjah Prize for Art Criticism in Plastic Arts for his study titled "The Arab World in Artistic Orientalism: Civilizational and Aesthetic Dimensions."
This prestigious award, presented by the Cultural Affairs Department of Sharjah, highlights the vital role of art criticism in understanding cultural interactions.
Now in its 15th edition, the prize this year focuses on the theme "The Arab World in Artistic Orientalism." The second-place award went to Egyptian researcher Atef Saâd for his study on the "Aesthetic and Artistic Vision of Orientalist Painters of Equestrian Scenes in 19th Century Egypt."
In a statement, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qasir, secretary-general of the prize sponsored by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah, emphasized that the award has helped establish a specialized culture of art criticism in the Arab world, marking a first of its kind in the region.
Researchers from several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria, also competed for this honor.
