Urgent Call for Action: Hospitals in Gaza Under Siege

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has reached a critical point, with the Israeli military targeting key hospitals in the northern part of the enclave. Health authorities and humanitarian organizations are urgently appealing for international intervention as medical facilities struggle to cope with relentless attacks and an escalating humanitarian crisis.

Hospitals Under Attack

Three major hospitals—Kamal Adwan Hospital, Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya, and al-Awda Hospital near Jabalia—have been at the center of intensified assaults. Early on Tuesday, explosive devices detonated near Kamal Adwan Hospital injured approximately 20 patients and medical staff. The hospital director reported significant infrastructure damage, including the destruction of critical units like intensive care. Nearby buildings have also been reduced to rubble, hampering access and evacuation efforts.

At al-Awda Hospital, a charitable facility providing free healthcare, attacks have caused fires that spread to adjacent residential areas. Similarly, the Indonesian Hospital has sustained extensive damage, leading to evacuations and further destabilizing healthcare services in the region. Patients and staff have been subjected to intimidation by military forces, including threats to evacuate in the middle of the night despite cold weather and unsafe conditions.

Growing Humanitarian Concerns

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has stated that these attacks are part of a broader effort to render all three hospitals inoperable. Over 20 assaults on Kamal Adwan Hospital alone have been reported in recent days, including the use of drones and shelling. Rights organizations have labeled the situation as "genocide,"emphasizing the dire need for international intervention.

The challenges extend beyond hospital bombings. Aid delivery to Gaza has become nearly impossible due to blockades and chaotic conditions caused by ongoing military operations. Reports indicate that even humanitarian convoys are being targeted. On Monday, a convoy near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah was attacked, resulting in fatalities and the destruction of critical supplies.

Appeals for Global Intervention

The head of the United Nations humanitarian agency (OCHA) has described Gaza as facing its most dangerous situation in recent history. The agency reports over 100 denied access requests to northern Gaza since October, further compounding the crisis. Systematic looting of humanitarian supplies and the breakdown of law and order have worsened the plight of civilians, leaving thousands without essential aid.

The escalating attacks on Gaza’s hospitals and the obstruction of humanitarian aid demand immediate international attention. Without decisive action, the healthcare system risks total collapse, leaving countless lives at risk. The global community must act to ensure the safety of medical facilities and facilitate the urgent delivery of aid to those in need.
