Iran-Jordan: Tensions Escalate Following Strikes on American Targets
Military tensions in the Middle East are experiencing a new escalation. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed on Monday to have launched an attack on American military facilities located in Jordan, utilizing ballistic missiles and drones.
According to information provided by the Guards and reported by Iranian state media, this operation is a response to previous American strikes against the Iranian island of Larak.
American Facilities Targeted in Jordan
The Iranian army claims to have targeted two American bases in Jordan. The strikes reportedly involved technical and maintenance infrastructure as well as aircraft stationed at these facilities.
In their statement, the Revolutionary Guards presented the operation as a direct response to American bombings and issued a warning to Washington. They notably warned that any further hostile action could lead to a more significant military response.
This declaration comes as exchanges of strikes between Iran and the United States pose an additional risk to regional stability.
Amman Claims to Have Intercepted Eight Missiles
Jordan quickly reacted to the Iranian announcement. The Jordanian army stated that it had intercepted eight missiles that entered its airspace.
In a statement, it claimed to have "successfully destroyed" the projectiles. However, Jordanian authorities did not specify their origin.
This announcement comes directly after the Iranian claim of an attack on American military positions present on Jordanian territory. It illustrates the particularly sensitive position of Amman, placed at the heart of a regional environment marked by increasing military confrontations.
A New Phase in Regional Escalation
This sequence reflects an expansion of the consequences of the clashes between Washington and Tehran. Jordan, which hosts American facilities and forces, finds itself exposed to the direct effects of the confrontation.
For Iran, the claimed attack on American facilities constitutes a response to the strikes against Larak. For Jordanian authorities, the stated priority remains the protection of their airspace against incoming projectiles.
The rapid succession of Iranian and Jordanian announcements thus confirms the high tension prevailing in the region and raises fears of new military actions that could further expand the theater of hostilities.
