Royal Air Maroc relaunches Casablanca-Beijing flights to enhance tourism and trade ties

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has officially resumed its direct flight service between Casablanca and Beijing, a strategic move aimed at strengthening tourism and economic ties between Morocco and China. The relaunch of this route, which initially debuted in January 2020 but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marks a significant milestone in RAM’s global expansion efforts.

The first flight of the revived route departed from Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport at 4:20 p.m. on Monday, signaling a renewed commitment to fostering connectivity between the two nations. RAM announced its decision to reinstate the service in August 2024, emphasizing its role in promoting Moroccan tourism and facilitating trade.

A boost for tourism and economic collaboration

RAM CEO Hamid Addou highlighted the route’s potential to attract foreign tourists, noting that 80% of the expected traffic will consist of international visitors. “The Casablanca-Beijing route is primarily dedicated to the development of Moroccan tourism,” Addou stated, underscoring its significance in showcasing Morocco as a premier travel destination.

Beyond tourism, the route is poised to enhance economic and commercial relations between Morocco and China. Addou described the connection as “long-awaited,” emphasizing its dual role in driving both leisure travel and business opportunities.

Flight details and operational highlights

The Casablanca-Beijing route will operate three times weekly, utilizing Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft equipped with 302 seats, including 26 in Business Class. Flights from Casablanca are scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 4:20 p.m., arriving in Beijing at 11:55 a.m. the following day. Return flights depart Beijing on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 1:55 p.m., landing in Casablanca at 8:10 p.m.

Part of a broader expansion strategy

The relaunch of the Casablanca-Beijing route aligns with RAM’s broader development plan, which was formalized in collaboration with the Moroccan government in July 2023. This initiative has already seen the introduction of new international destinations, including Toronto and São Paulo, as part of the airline’s efforts to expand its global footprint.

By reestablishing this vital air link, RAM aims to position Morocco as a key hub for travel and trade, while fostering stronger ties with one of the world’s largest economies. The resumption of the Casablanca-Beijing route not only underscores RAM’s commitment to growth but also highlights Morocco’s strategic vision for enhancing its global connectivity.
