Moroccan cybersecurity team qualifies for global final in Bali
Morocco is strengthening its presence in the international cybersecurity arena after the Moroccan team VoidSec, affiliated with IKLIGHT, secured a place in the global final of the KasperskyCTF competition by winning the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa regional stage.
The achievement highlights the growing capabilities of Moroccan cybersecurity professionals in a field that has become increasingly important as governments, businesses and institutions accelerate their digital transformation.
Kaspersky announced the results of this year's competition on September 7, following a demanding 24-hour contest that brought together 1,657 teams representing 98 countries. The participants included 1,024 university teams and 633 teams representing companies and other organizations.
Competitors were challenged with a wide range of technical problems designed to test their ability to identify vulnerabilities, protect digital systems and respond to sophisticated cyber threats. The challenges covered areas such as cryptography, vulnerability exploitation, artificial intelligence security and cyberattack analysis.
During the competition, participants submitted around 17,000 flags, technical markers used in capture-the-flag cybersecurity competitions to demonstrate that a particular challenge has been successfully solved. More than 5,200 submissions were ultimately validated before regional winners were determined.
VoidSec emerged as the winner of its regional competition, becoming one of five teams to secure direct qualification for the international final. The Moroccan team will face competitors representing Colombia, Italy, South Korea and Russia in Bali, Indonesia, from October 20 to 23.
The final will be held as part of the Security Analyst Summit and is expected to present a significantly more demanding test than the regional stage. Teams will not only have to solve technical challenges but will also be required to defend their own systems while attempting to compromise those of their opponents.
This format reflects the increasingly complex nature of modern cybersecurity, where professionals must be capable of both identifying weaknesses and protecting infrastructure against active attacks.
