Gaza Crisis: Morocco Underscores Importance of President Biden's Proposals for Lasting Ceasefire

Amidst the escalating conflict in Gaza, the Kingdom of Morocco, whose Sovereign, His Majesty King Mohammed VI (may God assist him), chairs the Al-Quds Committee, has highlighted the significance of the proposals put forth by the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr. Joseph R. Biden. These proposals aim to facilitate the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, ensure access to humanitarian aid, protect civilians, enable the return of displaced persons, and reconstruct the areas ravaged by destruction, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

The Kingdom of Morocco "hopes that the various parties concerned will adhere to this initiative and commit to implementing its different phases," the ministry emphasized in a communiqué.

"Morocco continues to believe that a lasting peace in the Middle East inevitably hinges on a two-state solution: a Palestinian state, within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting alongside an Israeli state," the statement concluded.

In this tumultuous period, Morocco's endorsement of President Biden's proposals carries significant weight, reflecting the nation's unwavering commitment to finding a comprehensive and just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the chair of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco's stance underscores the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza while simultaneously pursuing a sustainable political settlement that addresses the core issues fueling the region's long-standing discord.

The communiqué's emphasis on the two-state solution echoes the widely held belief that this framework offers the most viable path toward lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians. By calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, Morocco reiterates its steadfast support for the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people while recognizing Israel's right to exist within secure and internationally recognized boundaries.

As the conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with civilian casualties mounting and infrastructure crumbling, the need for decisive action has never been more pressing. Morocco's endorsement of President Biden's proposals, coupled with its unwavering commitment to the two-state solution, underscores the nation's determination to play a constructive role in defusing the crisis and paving the way for a comprehensive and durable peace agreement.
