Morocco opens tender to launch 5G mobile networks

Morocco has announced a tender process to license the rollout of 5G mobile networks, signaling a significant step in the country’s digital transformation. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) confirmed the move, aligning it with Morocco's ambitious Digital 2030 strategy and its broader telecom policy goals.

The initiative aims to equip Morocco with high-quality 5G infrastructure to support economic and social development. Known for its faster data speeds, low latency, and real-time communication capabilities, 5G technology is expected to revolutionize sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, industry, and transportation, according to the ANRT.

The tender document outlines the legal, technical, and financial requirements for building and operating 5G networks. It also details customer service obligations, network coverage standards, and the quality benchmarks that operators must meet. A transparent evaluation process will ensure fairness, with the results to be published in a public report.

Interested companies are invited to collect the tender documents from the ANRT. Once the licensing process is complete, the terms and conditions will be formalized in the "Cahier des Charges," a regulatory document that will be adopted by government decree and published in Morocco's Official Bulletin.

The adoption of 5G is a cornerstone of Morocco's Digital 2030 strategy, which aims to position the country as a leader in digital innovation by the end of the decade. Building on previous initiatives like Maroc Digital 2020, the strategy focuses on fostering connectivity, innovation, and economic growth in the increasingly digital global economy.
