Ukraine receives first $1.5 billion tranche under new IMF program
Ukraine has secured its first $1.5 billion disbursement from the International Monetary Fund under a new four-year financial assistance program worth $8.1 billion, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced on Tuesday.
The funding is part of the Extended Fund Facility arrangement designed to support Ukraine’s economic resilience amid the ongoing war with Russia. According to Svyrydenko, the funds have already been transferred and will be allocated to priority budget expenditures while reinforcing macrofinancial stability.
She emphasized that the IMF’s continued backing plays a critical role in helping Kyiv manage wartime economic pressures, including public spending, institutional reform, and financial system stability. Since February 2022, total IMF assistance to Ukraine has reached nearly $14.9 billion.
"I am grateful to our partners for their trust and support," Svyrydenko said, highlighting the government's commitment to implementing agreed reforms. These measures aim to strengthen state institutions, maintain economic stability, and advance Ukraine’s European integration objectives.
The new program underscores ongoing international financial support for Ukraine as it navigates both military and economic challenges.
