Egypt awaits IMF approval of seventh review under economic reform program
Egypt is expected to receive a new financial disbursement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the coming weeks as the institution prepares to review the country's ongoing economic reform program.
According to Egyptian officials, the IMF's Executive Board is expected to consider the seventh review of the reform program by mid-August. If approved, Egypt would receive approximately $1.6 billion in financing aimed at supporting macroeconomic stability, strengthening foreign exchange reserves, and advancing structural reforms.
The anticipated package would include funding under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) as well as additional resources linked to the IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), which supports reforms designed to improve long-term economic resilience.
The expected review follows a staff-level agreement reached earlier this year, a step that generally precedes formal approval by the IMF Executive Board. The organization typically evaluates progress on fiscal reforms, monetary policy, exchange rate flexibility, and measures intended to encourage private sector investment before authorizing the release of new funding.
Egypt has continued implementing a broad reform agenda in recent years to address inflation, stabilize public finances, attract foreign investment, and improve economic competitiveness. The program also seeks to strengthen the country's resilience against external shocks while supporting sustainable long-term growth.
The IMF recently updated its economic outlook for Egypt, slightly lowering its growth forecast for the 2026–2027 fiscal year while acknowledging stronger-than-previously-expected performance during the fiscal year that ended in June. The revised projections reflect both global economic uncertainty and the government's ongoing reform efforts.
Economic analysts note that continued cooperation with the IMF remains an important component of Egypt's financial strategy, helping reinforce investor confidence and providing access to international financing as the country pursues fiscal and structural reforms.
The final review under the current IMF arrangement is expected later this year before the existing program concludes, marking another milestone in Egypt's efforts to maintain economic stability and support sustainable development.
