Morocco-Jordan: A New Agreement to Strengthen Judicial Cooperation

Morocco and Jordan are taking a new step in strengthening their judicial relations. The ministers of Justice from both countries, Abdellatif Ouahbi and Bassam Samir Talhouni, signed an agreement on Friday in Rabat concerning the extradition of wanted persons.

This new legal instrument aims to consolidate cooperation between the competent authorities of both countries and to establish a more structured framework for handling requests related to wanted persons.

A Legal Framework to Facilitate Cooperation

The signing of this agreement followed discussions focused on the future of judicial cooperation between Morocco and Jordan. The talks notably addressed the enhancement of institutional coordination as well as the development of exchanges of expertise and experiences in various areas related to justice.

For Abdellatif Ouahbi, this agreement marks a significant advancement in the development of judicial relations between the two countries. He believes it reflects a shared commitment to strengthen the legal and institutional instruments necessary for closer cooperation.

The new arrangement should particularly facilitate exchanges between the relevant authorities in cases requiring bilateral coordination and enhance the efficiency of procedures.

Cooperation Aimed at Increasing Efficiency

The agreement provides for the establishment of mechanisms governing requests for the extradition of wanted persons, in compliance with national legislations and the legal commitments applicable in each of the two countries.

The objective is to have clearer procedures to facilitate cooperation in cases requiring the coordinated intervention of Moroccan and Jordanian judicial institutions.

This dynamic should also contribute to strengthening the fight against crime and consolidating trust between the institutions responsible for justice in both countries.

A Judicial Partnership That is Strengthening

For his part, Jordanian Justice Minister Bassam Samir Talhouni emphasized the importance of this new step in relations between the two countries, highlighting the shared desire to expand and strengthen their cooperation in the judicial field.

He also stressed the importance of continuing the exchange of experiences and expertise in areas of mutual interest. The agreement signed in Rabat thus complements other cooperation instruments previously concluded between the two countries, gradually strengthening the legal architecture of their partnership.

Through this new agreement, Morocco and Jordan reaffirm their commitment to developing a more structured judicial cooperation, based on reinforced institutional mechanisms and better coordination between their competent authorities.
