Shada Hassoun returns to Mawazine Festival 2025

On June 23, Shada Hassoun made a remarkable comeback at the Mawazine Festival on the Nahda stage, twelve years after her first appearance. The evening was filled with nostalgia, emotion, and a cultural dialogue linking Morocco and Iraq.

Known for her dual Moroccan-Iraqi identity, Shada Hassoun is a celebrated voice in the Arab world. Her music skillfully blends Khaliji rhythms with Iraqi influences, offering a unique and genuine sound. For this 20th edition of the festival, she promised a performance that is both intimate and festive, drawing from a repertoire rich in emotion and cultural heritage.

During a press conference, Shada Hassoun expressed deep gratitude for returning to Morocco: “I’m very happy to be here. I hope to participate in future editions,” she shared with a smile. She highlighted the importance of her connection to the Kingdom, where she was born and partially raised, reflecting on a Moroccan childhood that shaped her artistic sensitivity and personal journey.

Torn between two homelands, she said, “Morocco is a love, just like Iraq. I love them both and I am both.” This statement reflects the richness of her identity and her role as a cultural bridge between the two countries. She also mentioned the close relationship between Moroccans and Iraqis: “Moroccans tell me they adore Iraqis, and the feeling is mutual. It’s a beautiful connection.”

Shada Hassoun did not hesitate to share her views on current issues, criticizing the superficial fame some social media influencers gain without genuine artistic talent: “Some become famous simply by exposing their private lives or producing reality TV content. It’s a phenomenon driven by public curiosity,” she lamented, calling for a return to merit and quality in entertainment.

Balancing musical authenticity with a critical view of modern times, Shada Hassoun’s performance at Mawazine 2025 promises to be a memorable highlight. Her concert on the Nahda stage is eagerly awaited by music lovers nostalgic for her voice and eager to rediscover an artist deeply rooted in two rich, complementary cultures. This homecoming is destined to be unforgettable.
