Salam discusses ongoing financial reforms with French official Jacques de Lajugie
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met on Tuesday with Jacques de Lajugie, the international representative of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, to discuss key financial reforms currently underway in Lebanon.
During the meeting, held at the Grand Serail in Beirut, Prime Minister Salam and Mr. de Lajugie addressed recent developments concerning the draft law for the resolution of the banking sector. This legislation, aimed at restructuring the country's troubled financial system, is presently under review in the Lebanese Parliament, specifically by the Finance and Budget Committee. Discussions also included proposed amendments and the tentative timeline for the law's approval, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA).
The talks also focused on progress related to a separate bill intended to address Lebanon’s fiscal deficit—another critical reform required by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of broader negotiations for financial assistance.
This marks Jacques de Lajugie’s latest visit to Lebanon since June. The upcoming parliamentary sessions could prove pivotal, as lawmakers are expected to deliberate and potentially vote on the draft banking resolution law in the near future.
The financial overhaul, seen as a cornerstone in restoring investor confidence and unlocking international support, remains central to Lebanon’s efforts to exit its deep economic crisis, one of the worst in its modern history.
