Royal Caribbean scraps Mexico water park after environmental backlash, president says
Cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has decided to withdraw its planned large-scale water park project on Mexico’s Caribbean coast following strong environmental opposition and regulatory rejection by Mexican authorities, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The project, known as “Perfect Day,” was intended to be a major tourism development in the coastal region of Quintana Roo. However, it faced increasing criticism from environmental groups and local communities concerned about its potential impact on fragile marine ecosystems and the natural landscape of the area.
Authorities ultimately rejected the proposal, citing environmental considerations and public concerns. The decision was later confirmed by Mexico’s president, who stated that the company had chosen to fully abandon the project after the official rejection.
