Polish PM questions US loyalty in case of Russian attack
Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has raised concerns about whether the United States would remain a reliable ally in the event of a potential Russian attack, according to recent media reports.
Speaking in an interview with the Financial Times, Tusk described the issue as one of the most critical questions facing Europe today. His remarks highlight growing unease among European leaders regarding the future role of the United States within NATO, particularly amid shifting political dynamics in Washington.
Tusk emphasized that countries along NATO’s eastern flank are increasingly focused on whether the alliance is fully prepared—both politically and logistically—to respond to possible aggression from Russia. He warned that such a scenario should be treated as a serious and near-term concern rather than a distant possibility.
The Polish leader also called for the European Union to strengthen its internal cohesion and defense capabilities, suggesting it should evolve into a more effective and unified security alliance.
These comments come as European leaders gather for high-level discussions in Cyprus, where topics include tensions in the Middle East, energy security, and the bloc’s long-term financial planning. The broader context reflects increasing geopolitical uncertainty and the need for coordinated responses among Western allies.
