Morocco's Digital Upskilling Quest: Empowering 70,000 Youth by 2027

In a bold move to harness the potential of the digital age, Morocco has embarked on an ambitious endeavor to equip 70,000 youth with cutting-edge digital skills by 2027. This transformative initiative, led by the Minister of Digital Transition, Ghita Mezzour, is part of a broader strategy to expand the nation's digital education and training offerings.

During a session of oral questions at the House of Representatives, Mezzour announced the recent launch of a program aimed at training 15,000 young individuals across various regions of the Kingdom. Building upon a successful pilot initiative, this program offers three- to six-month training courses tailored for science graduates, redirecting their expertise towards thriving digital careers and facilitating their seamless integration into the job market.

The minister proudly shared that the pilot program had already upskilled 1,000 youth, with an impressive 70% of them securing employment upon completion. Furthermore, through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, the number of university students enrolled in digital disciplines has doubled, setting an ambitious target of producing 70,000 digital graduates by 2027, equating to approximately 22,000 annually.

Mezzour also highlighted various distance learning programs and coding education initiatives that the ministry is actively deploying across the country, with the aim of strengthening the digital competencies of Moroccan youth nationwide.

This concerted effort to nurture a digitally proficient workforce resonates with Morocco's vision of embracing technological advancements and positioning itself as a regional hub for innovation. By investing in the youth and equipping them with the requisite skills, the nation is paving the way for a future where its citizens can thrive in an increasingly digital world.

The digital upskilling quest not only holds the promise of economic prosperity but also serves as a catalyst for social empowerment. As the youth acquire cutting-edge digital expertise, they become better equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern age, unlocking new avenues for entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-sufficiency.

Morocco's commitment to fostering a digitally literate generation underscores the nation's determination to stay ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving technological landscape. By nurturing a skilled and adaptable workforce, the country is poised to capitalize on the boundless opportunities that the digital revolution presents, while simultaneously laying the foundations for a prosperous and inclusive digital economy.
