Iran offers support to Venezuela amid tensions with Washington
Venezuela has announced that Iran has expressed its willingness to support Caracas in the face of growing tensions with the United States. The offer was made following a phone conversation between the foreign ministers of both countries, according to Venezuelan officials.
The statement comes at a time when the United States has increased its military presence in the Caribbean, officially as part of anti-drug trafficking operations. Venezuelan authorities, however, view these actions as hostile and accuse Washington of attempting to exert pressure through naval deployments and the seizure of oil shipments linked to Venezuela.
Iran, a long-standing ally of President Nicolás Maduro’s government, described its support as comprehensive, emphasizing cooperation against what it considers acts of aggression and intimidation. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil highlighted Tehran’s solidarity and its readiness to collaborate in multiple sectors.
In recent years, Iran has provided Venezuela with fuel, food supplies, and medical assistance, helping the country cope with international sanctions. Other allies, including Russia and China, have also voiced their support for Caracas, reinforcing diplomatic ties as geopolitical tensions continue to rise in the region.
