Morocco's weather shift: Anticipated snowfall and thunderstorms ahead

Morocco is experiencing a sudden drop in temperatures following a brief period of warmth, with the weather office warning of significant weather changes expected through Friday.

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) has issued alerts for thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong winds affecting multiple provinces. On Thursday, snowfall of 25 to 50 centimeters is anticipated in areas including Ifrane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al Haouz, Midelt, Boulemane, and Ouarzazate.

An orange-level alert has been activated for additional regions such as Tinghir, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Taza, and Guercif. Furthermore, lighter snowfall of 5 to 10 centimeters is forecasted for Figuig, Jerada, Taourirt, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaouen.

The snow is expected to persist into Friday, with an additional 15 to 30 centimeters forecasted for Boulemane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Ifrane, Midelt, and Azilal. Meanwhile, Taourit, Jerada, and Figuig may see 5 to 10 centimeters of snow.

In addition to snowfall, strong thunderstorms are predicted in northern cities such as Tangier, Tetouan, Fahs-Anjra, M'Diq-Fnideq, Larache, and Chefchaouen from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, bringing 20 to 35 millimeters of rain. This weather pattern will extend to provinces including Taza, Khenisset, Meknes, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Moulay Yacoub, and Khouribga.

Moreover, gusts of wind reaching 75 to 90 kilometers per hour are expected in Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, and Taza from Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

As Morocco braces for these weather changes, residents are advised to stay updated and take necessary precautions.
