Morocco receives first locally manufactured WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles
The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) have officially received the first batch of WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles, manufactured locally by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in Morocco. The Indian defense giant announced the delivery on Wednesday, describing it as a “major milestone” in Morocco-India military cooperation.
TASL highlighted the strengthened strategic partnership between the two countries and emphasized that the vehicles are “made in Morocco,” underlining the significance of local production. The delivery reflects Morocco’s ongoing ambition to develop a robust defense industrial and technological base while diversifying its strategic partnerships in the arms sector.
The vehicles are produced at the state-of-the-art Tata Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM) plant in Berrechid, inaugurated on September 23. The facility serves both domestic needs and international markets, particularly in Africa. Initially, 35% of the components are locally sourced, with plans to increase this to 50% through investments in training and national supplier integration. TASM also provides Moroccan talent with opportunities for professional development and expertise in advanced defense vehicle production and maintenance.
