Morocco prepares for AFCON with friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda

Morocco’s national football team held its final training session on Wednesday evening before traveling to Tangier, where they will compete in friendly matches against Mozambique and Uganda. The games are part of the team’s preparations for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The November FIFA international window has provided an opportunity for participating nations to refine their squads. Morocco, as the tournament host, is making the most of this period. Head coach Walid Regragui emphasized the importance of team cohesion and strategic planning during the training sessions.

Regragui expressed Morocco’s ambition to host an exceptional AFCON, stating, "We will show Africa that Morocco has a high level of organization and staff. There will be celebrations, unity, and a collective spirit inside and outside the stadium."

The Atlas Lions are scheduled to face Mozambique on Friday and Uganda on Tuesday, November 18, with both matches taking place at the Grand Stade de Tanger. However, the team will be without key players due to injuries. Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi is sidelined after sustaining a serious injury during a UEFA Champions League match. Additionally, Nayef Aguerd, who plays for Olympique de Marseille, will not participate after being injured in a club game.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is set to begin on December 21, culminating in the final on January 18.
