Morocco highlights peacekeeping legacy and commitment at New Delhi UN conclave
Morocco’s longstanding dedication to global peacekeeping and international stability took center stage in New Delhi on Tuesday during the first United Nations Troop Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave (UNTCC). The event, organized by the Indian Army, brought together representatives from over 30 nations under the theme “The World Is One Family.”
Leading Morocco’s delegation, Brigadier General Abdelkrim Nejjar emphasized the country’s deep-rooted tradition of peacekeeping, guided by the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). Speaking at the plenary session, Nejjar highlighted Morocco’s unwavering commitment to preventing conflict, restoring peace, and promoting security through both UN missions and bilateral partnerships.
Nejjar noted that Morocco’s engagement in peacekeeping is a reflection of its constitutional values, which prioritize peace and security as pillars of national identity. Recalling Morocco’s historic contributions to global stability, he pointed out that Moroccan soldiers participated in both World Wars, and the Kingdom has continued this legacy for over six decades by deploying troops to UN missions across Africa and other regions.
Addressing the evolving challenges of peacekeeping, Nejjar stressed the need for more adaptable mandates, practical frameworks, and inclusive strategies to enhance operational effectiveness in increasingly complex environments. He also highlighted Morocco’s role in capacity-building, particularly through the establishment of the Peace Operations Training Center under HM King Mohammed VI’s directives. This center provides advanced training to military, police, and civilian personnel, both Moroccan and international, preparing them for multidimensional peacekeeping missions.
Nejjar reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to acting with respect for host nations’ sovereignty and realities on the ground, emphasizing the Kingdom’s aim to strengthen global stability, protect civilian populations, and promote effective multilateral cooperation.
The three-day UNTCC provided a platform for nations to share best practices, deepen collaboration, and address critical issues such as operational readiness, sustainable peace in complex environments, and the integration of new technologies into peacekeeping missions.
