Morocco cereal harvest set to reach 90 million quintals
Morocco’s cereal production for the 2025 to 2026 agricultural season is expected to approach 90 million quintals, marking a strong recovery after several years of drought. The announcement came from Ahmed El Bouari during a high-level conference held in Meknès, as part of the Salon international de l'Agriculture au Maroc.
Favorable rainfall across the country has driven this projected increase. Authorities reported that precipitation covered all major agricultural regions, improving soil moisture and water reserves. As a result, the area sown with cereals reached approximately 3.9 million hectares, a level that supports higher yield expectations compared with previous seasons affected by prolonged dry conditions.
Officials emphasized that the improved hydrological situation has boosted confidence among farmers and stakeholders. After consecutive years of limited rainfall that constrained output and strained rural incomes, the current campaign signals a return to more stable production conditions. The increase in planted areas reflects both improved weather patterns and renewed farmer engagement.
The announcement was made at the opening of an international conference linked to the 18th edition of the agricultural exhibition, which runs until April 28. The event focuses on the sustainability of animal production and food sovereignty, themes that align with Morocco’s broader strategy to strengthen agricultural resilience and secure domestic supply chains.
The projected harvest carries broader economic implications. Higher cereal output can reduce reliance on imports, ease pressure on food prices, and support rural employment. Authorities view the current season as a critical step toward stabilizing the agricultural sector and reinforcing long-term food security in the country.
