Morocco:BIM nears 1,000 stores and strengthens its international position
The Turkish retail giant BİM continues its rapid expansion in Morocco, bringing its network close to the symbolic milestone of 1,000 stores. In 2025 alone, the company opened 144 new outlets, raising its total to 933 points of sale across the country.
This strong performance highlights the strategic importance of the Moroccan subsidiary within BIM’s global operations. As the first brand to introduce the hard discount model to the Moroccan market, BIM has established itself as a key player, facing growing competition from Kazyon and Supeco, the latter owned by Groupe Label Vie.
Morocco recorded a remarkable organic growth rate of nearly 18% in 2025, outperforming Egypt, where BIM opened only 27 stores to reach a total of 445 locations. Profitable since 2019, BIM Morocco benefits from an efficient logistics network and a dense retail presence, enabling it to cater to a rapidly expanding urban customer base.
The Moroccan subsidiary is owned 65% by BIM and 35% by Helios Investment Partners. To support its growth, the company has strengthened its logistics infrastructure with four new distribution centers. It currently employs around 7,100 people, representing about 7% of the group’s global workforce of over 101,000 employees.
Globally, BIM operates 14,473 stores, with more than 13,000 located in Turkey. However, Morocco stands out as one of the group’s most dynamic markets, driven by a proven business model: cost-efficient stores often located on city outskirts, a limited assortment of around 1,000 products—more than half under private labels—fast inventory turnover, and highly competitive pricing.
This approach resonates strongly with Moroccan consumers facing inflationary pressures, positioning BIM for continued growth. The company is expected to surpass the 1,000-store mark in Morocco during the first half of 2026.
BIM’s expansion is also supported by its ownership structure and governance strategy. The entry of Helios Investment Partners in 2021 aimed to accelerate growth, strengthen local integration, and expand operations. In parallel, BIM Morocco has advanced its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy in 2025, focusing on customer experience, supply chain efficiency, employee well-being, and health and safety standards, while maintaining relatively moderate environmental and social impacts at the group level.
