Morocco automotive sales surpass 104,000 vehicles in five months
The Moroccan automotive market continued its upward trajectory in May 2026, confirming sustained demand across both private and commercial segments. A total of 23,037 new vehicles were sold during the month, marking a 2.8 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025. Over the first five months of the year, cumulative sales reached 104,555 units, up 17.8 percent year on year, and reinforcing the sector’s momentum after an already record performance in 2025.
Passenger cars remained the main driver of market growth. In May alone, this segment accounted for 20,270 units, slightly above the 20,244 recorded a year earlier. From January to May, passenger car sales totaled 92,153 units, also reflecting a 17.8 percent annual increase. Light commercial vehicles contributed an additional 2,767 units in May, indicating stable demand from professional and logistics-related activities.
The market’s early crossing of the 100,000-unit threshold highlights the acceleration of vehicle demand in the country. In 2025, total registrations reached 235,372 units, setting a high benchmark for the industry. The current performance shows five consecutive months of growth above the previous year’s levels. This trend reflects improved supply conditions, continued renewal of vehicle fleets, and broader access to financing solutions supporting consumer purchases.
A notable shift in market structure is also emerging through electrification. Electrified vehicles now represent 17.2 percent of passenger car sales, an unprecedented level for the sector. Hybrid and electric models are expanding their presence, reshaping purchasing preferences and pushing distributors to adjust their offerings. At the same time, Chinese brands have strengthened their position, now exceeding 11 percent of total sales, increasing competition across entry-level and mid-range segments.
This evolving landscape is placing pressure on distributors to adapt to more segmented demand, where buyers focus increasingly on operating costs, technology features, and financing flexibility. For consumers, the widening range of options is reshaping access to mobility in a context where vehicle ownership remains closely tied to household spending power and broader economic confidence.
