Maduro taken into US custody to face criminal charges
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been taken into custody by United States forces following a military operation carried out early on Saturday, according to statements from US officials relayed by a Republican senator.
Senator Mike Lee said on social media that Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the arrest, explaining that Maduro was detained by US personnel to face criminal charges in the United States. The operation, Lee noted, was conducted in accordance with a longstanding arrest warrant and aimed to ensure the safety of those involved in enforcing it.
