LOGITERR 2024: Tangier Summit Charts New Course for African Transport Infrastructure

African transport and logistics sectors marked a significant milestone as LOGITERR 2024 launched in Tangier, Morocco, bringing together key stakeholders to address the continent's evolving mobility needs. The four-day international exhibition, running from October 22-25, represents a collaborative effort between the City Council of Tangier, the African Union of Transport and Logistics Organizations (UAOTL), and CGLU Africa.

The inaugural event, hosted at the Place Mövenpick Malabata, commenced with a ceremonial opening featuring both the Moroccan and UAOTL anthems. Distinguished representatives from Libya and Nigeria received recognition for their contributions to regional transport development.

UAOTL President Dr. Mustapha Chaoune highlighted the exhibition's historical significance, tracing the organization's roots to its founding in Marrakech on March 14, 2018. "This occasion is about aligning our legal frameworks with our objectives to create a future of solutions for all African nations," Dr. Chaoune emphasized.

Sierra Leone's Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, SEM Amara Kallon, addressed the critical role of supply chain efficiency in Africa's future development. With the continent's population expected to exceed 2.5 billion by 2050, Kallon stressed the urgency of modernizing logistics infrastructure. "Our economies are poised for rapid expansion, creating a large, youthful, and dynamic market," he noted, advocating for strategic technological integration to enhance supply chain capabilities.

Dr. Kasim Ibrahim Bateya, First Deputy President of the African Transport and Logistics Union, emphasized the forum's continental reach, with 37 participating nations. "We already have the resources - minerals and knowledge - all we need now is unity and communication," he stated, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation.

The forum's agenda includes comprehensive discussions on sustainable logistics systems, technological innovation, and regional integration strategies. With upcoming keynotes, panels, and networking events, LOGITERR 2024 aims to establish a framework for coordinated transport development across Africa.

The exhibition represents a crucial step toward realizing the African Union's Agenda 2030 objectives, focusing on creating efficient, sustainable transport networks that can support the continent's ambitious economic growth targets.
