Montreuil apartment fire investigated as possible femicide

Authorities are investigating a deadly apartment fire in Montreuil as a possible femicide after a woman and her partner were found dead early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called around 1:40 a.m. to a third-floor apartment in the Morillon neighborhood, following reports of heavy smoke and visible flames. Upon arrival, rescuers discovered the woman lying unconscious at the foot of the building. She had burn injuries and was in cardiac arrest. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m.

Initial police findings suggest the woman may have been trapped inside the burning apartment and jumped from the window to escape the flames and toxic smoke. Inside the apartment, the charred body of her partner was found. Investigators believe he may have locked the door and started the fire, making the case a potential femicide followed by the perpetrator’s death. The investigation is ongoing to confirm the circumstances.
