Lavrov and Qatari Prime Minister discuss Iran crisis in phone call
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone conversation on Friday with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss rising tensions surrounding Iran.
According to official statements, both officials emphasized the urgent need to halt any military actions that could destabilize the broader region. They expressed shared concern over the risk of escalation and called for restraint from all parties involved.
The two diplomats underscored the importance of returning swiftly to a political and diplomatic process aimed at resolving outstanding issues between the United States, Israel, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. They stressed that any settlement should be grounded in the principles of the United Nations Charter and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, while fully considering the legitimate security interests of the Arab states of the Gulf.
Lavrov also reaffirmed Russia’s longstanding proposal to establish a collective security framework in the Gulf region, highlighting Moscow’s position that sustainable stability can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
