Jimenez’s penalty secures vital Fulham victory over Nottingham Forest

Fulham earned a crucial 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage, with Raul Jimenez’s first-half penalty providing the difference in a tense Premier League contest ahead of the festive break. The result eased Fulham’s relegation concerns while keeping Forest under pressure near the bottom of the table.

Jimenez’s precision proves decisive

The breakthrough came just before halftime when the referee awarded Fulham a penalty after Douglas Luiz fouled Kevin in the box. Jimenez stepped up with confidence, sending goalkeeper John Victor the wrong way and driving the ball into the left corner. It was the Mexican forward’s fourth goal of the season and his eleventh successful Premier League penalty, maintaining a flawless record from the spot.

Before the penalty, Forest had the best opportunity through Igor Jesus, who failed to convert a low cross from Neco Williams after well-coordinated play between Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi. In the second half, Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno was called into action, denying Williams and Murillo to preserve the hosts’ narrow advantage.

Table movement and form impact

With the victory, Fulham climbed to 13th place on 23 points, level with Brentford and Newcastle United. Forest remained 17th with 18 points, five clear of the relegation zone but still in a precarious position.

The result ended Fulham’s poor run at home, sparing Marco Silva’s side from a third consecutive defeat at Craven Cottage, something they had not experienced since their return to the Premier League in 2022. For Forest, the loss extended a disappointing record in west London, having failed to win in four league visits.
